In order to better understand the Scripture in our own time, we need to acquire the knowledge, wisdom, and skills necessary to interpret the Bible in its literary, historical, and theological contexts. This seminar will help students to interpret Scripture with the respect and clarity of understanding that it deserves in the strong hope that the Spirit will also interpret God’s Word into our hearts and lives.

Understanding Theology:
An Introduction to the Trinity, Incarnation and Christian Thinking

Theology is the careful articulation and explanation of the gospel, the good news about Jesus Christ that the Church has to proclaim. Theology can’t make you believe in God, but it can help make the gospel more intelligible. How is theology practiced, and by whom? What are the essential elements of Christian theology? Does any of this matter to the ‘everyday’ Christian? This seminar explores the shape and basic tenets of Christian theology and then discusses the dispute over the Trinity in the 4th century as an example of theology in practice.
