Questions and answers following the lecture (5.6 mb, mp3 file)

We live in a world of ubiquitous prayer. Across all sorts of religions, adherents offer prayer; even within Christianity, prayers are offered in many different forms, and with many different expectations. But why do we pray? What do we expect, and what ought we expect? To answer these questions, we must develop a sound theology of prayer, drawn not from the world, but from the revelation of God to us in the Scriptures.

Pastor Monaghan will teach on just this subject, drawing from texts throughout the the Scriptures to develop not only the practice of prayer as we see it in the Bible, but also the greater Biblical context of our prayers, the world we live in, and God's sovereign authority over all parts of it.

TONY MONAGHAN is Pastor of Providence Orthodox Presbyterian Church, Charlottesville, a church he helped to begin and where he has served for six years. He is a graduate of Westminster Theological Seminary, California, and is a former computer software engineer. He and his wife, Danya, have four children.
